Rose Eva - Sculptress
Sculpture is a tactile medium. It must be stroked and caressed. If a sculpture asks to be touched,
it has worked. Rose Eva is a sculptress working in both bronze and stone. Essentially self-taught,
her work is naturalistic: where the interest lies in movement - such as in her animals - the bronzes
are very realistic, while pieces inspired by human relationships – often between parents and their
children – have simpler forms.
The stone itself serves as the inspiration for her work in that medium: she never has any idea what
is going to be carved until she starts work.
Recent commissions include a five-foot stone piece for the Dermatology Department at Salisbury
District Hospital, and a bronze depicting a boy on a polo pony, the Somerville Livingstone-Learmonth
Memorial Trophy for the Beaufort Polo Club.
Rose runs workshops from her studio in Teffont: three-day courses in modelling, working on metal
armatures with both clay and plasticine, and five-day courses in stone carving. She also insists
that all clients stroke their sculptures.
